Intercontinental Hotel – Kabul, Afghanistan, January 25, 2010
On January 28, 2010 a conference will be held in London , where a plan for negotiating with the Taliban will be discussed. We, Women ‘s rights and Afghan Civil Society Organizations participating in the above-mentioned historic meeting, herewith declare the following :
– Based on the persistent violation of the rights of women and men by the Taliban whether when in power or after, objections were clearly and strongly expressed by all parties participating in this meeting regarding any negotiation with the Taliban.
– We desire peace and stability in Afghanistan , but we reaffirm that the Afghanistan Constitution and the international Declaration of Human Rights are non- negotiable.
– No country or organization, inclu ding Afghanistan itself , has the right to appoint criminals or those who, violate women’s and men’s rights to political or governing bodies. We nonetheless support those who, due diverse problems, were allied with the Taliban, and we encourage them to leave their ranks.
– We strongly urge the international community to oppose the funding of any program that offers further support of terrorists and the Taliban. We cannot support such a plan, destined to fall, which will bring about insecurity in Afghanistan.
– We believe that there is no difference between Taliban leaders and those of the nightmare Al- Qaida organization. Removing Taliban leaders’ names from black liste ( UN Committee 1267 ), is the same for us as removing the name of Osama bin Laden and Al- Qaida leaders.
– The Afghan Government and the international community have the responsibility and obligation to support and protect freedom of expression, the rights of democracy in Afghanistan. Achieving these goals can in no respect be achieved by negotiation with Taliban.
– We urge the Afghan Government and world powers to not let Afghanistan once again be plunged back to the pre- 2001 era : democratic values must not be sacrified to political bargaining.
– The aeticles in this resolution were unanimously approved by all 200 participating organizatuions.
